Family kept up all night by pranksters sending Just Eat takeaways to their home

A family-of-three have been struggling to sleep after pranksters sent them about 50 takeaways a weekend for three weeks.

Ant Jones, 27, claims he and wife Charlene have been kept up at night answering the door to delivery drivers for food they haven’t ordered.

He says they have received kebabs, pizzas and Indian food as late as 1am, with one Chinese banquet-sized takeaway coming with a bill of £80.

But without the money to pay for it, the dad-of-one has had to tell angry drivers to take the food away.

Ant says the family reached breaking point when their 20-month-old baby Kanaan couldn’t get back to sleep after being woken by the doorbell in the night.

He told the Liverpool Echo: ‘It started not the weekend just gone, the one before that. It’s been about 50 each weekend. The highest priced one they sent was £80.

‘The first weekend when it first happened, it was 8.30pm and went on until 1am. On Sunday [July 28] it happened at 8.30am, people sending breakfast and the Sunday roasts round.

‘I’ve got a 20-month old son and it kept him awake from midnight until 6.30am. I don’t have a clue why it’s happening.’

He added: ‘My wife’s very distressed as well. It’s very frustrating.’

The orders, placed in takeaway shops around Wirral, have arrived with all sorts of names attached, including Luke, Justin, Casey, Nathan.

Unsure how to stop the constant deliveries, Ant tried informing his housing association to see if they understood why his address was being targeted.

He continued: ‘[The delivery drivers have] been asking for payment on arrival and we’ve been not paying them and then they have to bin it.

‘It’s been kebabs, Indian, Chinese – part of that £80 order was a banquet. Some of them had the hump with us but in the end they understood.’

A Just Eat spokesperson said they have now blocked users from ordering food to Ant’s address.

They said: ‘We take complaints of this nature very seriously and are concerned to see this has happened.

‘We have investigated as a matter of urgency and put in place measures which should prevent further orders, including a block on the address and notifications to all restaurants on the Just Eat platform in the area not to deliver to the home.

‘We have been in contact with Mr Jones and also advised him to contact the police and will fully support any investigation into this.’
