Daughter of Black Lives Matter hero squeals with joy as she watches him on TV

Footage shows the moment the daughter of a Black Lives Matter protester screams with excitement as her dad appears on TV for his role in rescuing a white man from a confrontation on the weekend.

Patrick Hutchinson, a personal trainer and grandfather, received worldwide attention after a photo of his heroics went viral. It appeared to be the first time 10-year-old Sidena had seen her dad on the news.

He and four friends had feared for the man’s life on Saturday after seeing him surrounded by angry demonstrators on the weekend.

He scooped the man up into a fireman’s lift while his friends acted as a buffer between the pair and the protesters, whom he said continued to try and hit him.

A picture of the rescue went viral and led to widespread media coverage of the incident, while a spokesperson for Boris Johnson described Mr Hutchinson as ‘the best of us’.

An interview in which he played down any notion of him being a ‘hero’ and spoke of his hope for ‘equality for all’ was shown on Channel 4 on Sunday.

Sidena, seen on the right in the video, jumps up and down and shouts with her friends Kai’Yonna and Chela when her dad’s face pops up on the broadcast.

One of her friends says: ‘I can’t believe your dad’s on TV!’

The clip went viral after being uploaded to Twitter by Kai’Yonna’s mother, who said Sidena was incredibly proud of her dad.

Mr Hutchinson said in the interview: ‘His life was under threat so I just went and scooped him up, put him over my shoulder, and started marching towards the police with him.’

‘I just want equality for all of us. At the moment the scales are unfairly balanced and I just want things to be fair, for my children and my grandchildren.’

He had been at the protest with friends Pierre Noah, Jamaine Facey, Lee Russell and Chris Otokito, who are all affiliated with protection group Ark Security, to watch over young Black Lives Matter activists.

‘I was just the guy who was caught on camera with him on my shoulder, but all the guys were party to it.

‘Without them protecting me, I would probably have got stampeded as well, underneath it. So it was a team effort.’
