Covid vaccines have been a lifeline in the fight against coronavirus. After a successful rollout of vaccines, the UK government has made the decision to change the 12-week rule for second doses.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has revealed plans to speed up the Covid vaccine rollout.

Previously, everyone was advised to get their second vaccine dose within 12 weeks of their first jab.

However, everyone over 40 years old should be receiving their second dose within eight weeks.

The dose interval had previously been shorted for everyone over 50, but that’s now been extended to those over 40.

All over 40s will be offered their second dose ahead of the 12-week schedule.

People in their 40s can expect to be contacted to change their vaccine appointment date.

You won’t need to speak to the NHS or your GP directly.

It means that two-thirds of adults should have been offered both doses by July 19.

The government has also officially brought forward its July 31 target to offer a first dose to all over-18s in England.

Everyone should be offered their first Covid vaccine by July 19.

That’s also the same date that remaining restrictions are set to be lifted in the UK, according to the updated roadmap.

It’s now been revealed that Covid vaccines are “highly effective” against hospitalisation from the Delta variant.
