Come back, Meghan and Harry! Royal Family make emergency plans for U-turn

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have quit the front-line of the monarchy for a new life in Canada. But sources claim Prince Charles and Prince William have been “reaching out” to Meghan and Harry to let them know the door is open for them to return to the UK without having to pick up royal duties.

Sources told the Sunday Times: “The palace are very worried about the Sussexes, because they are vulnerable outside the embrace of the family.

“They are making contingency plans in case the Sussexes suddenly turn round and say: ‘Can we come back under your wing?’

“You could bring them back to Frogmore to look after them. They wouldn’t return to royal duties, but they could have a period of rehabilitation and recuperation.

“You see the way it has disintegrated over there in the last few days.

“What is happening is that they are being told that there is love and affection on standby.

“They could spend a month at Sandringham. There is also the Prince of Wales’s house in Wales.

“This is a looking ahead thing. There’s no timeline here. But everybody agrees that this is a fragile couple. Nobody is going to say, no they can’t come back.”

It comes after Harry was reunited with his wife and their eight-month-old son in Canada on Monday after crisis talks over their future roles concluded.

Hours earlier, he completed one of his last official engagements.

The Sussexes had hoped for a dual role but the plan was deemed unworkable.

Speaking at at event last Sunday for his charity Sentebale, Harry insisted he had “no other option” but to leave royal life behind.

It comes as a ComRes poll for the Daily Express found that Harry’s departure has not made the public like the Royal Family less.

Some 47 percent said they did not dislike the royals more now that Harry had left, with just 13 percent saying they did.

The poll also found that 40 percent think Harry has made a mistake standing down, compared to 31 percent who did not.

ComRes polled 2,039 British adults between January 22 and 23 for the Daily Express.
