Children hospitalised after virus at caravan park sees them 'drop like flies'

Several children have been hospitalised in Cornwall after being taken ill at a caravan park.

At least 30 children and eight adults became unwell this morning at Mullion Holiday Park due to a suspected sickness bug, believed to have originated off-site.

One mum, who wished to remain anonymous, described how children were ‘dropping like flies’.

She claims that at least two families have children who were taken to hospital due to their condition.

Her own family have been trapped on the site as they don’t want to return home and spread the illness to other family members.

The mum also claimed that guests are being refused refunds for their stay.

A spokesperson from Mullion Holiday Park said work was being undertaken to limit the spread of any virus.

They said: ‘We are carrying out an investigation after a group of guests at our park have become ill.

‘We immediately contacted Public Health England and the EHO and are co-operating with them fully to look after our guests and limit the spread of any virus.

‘We have strict food hygiene standards and we are working with the authorities to identify the source.

‘From our initial conversations with Public Health England the most likely explanation is that the illness was brought onto the park, rather than originating on-site.’

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service added: ‘We were called at around 10.25am about an incident in a caravan at a holiday park near Helston.

‘We sent a senior paramedic and an ambulance crew to attend the incident. As the incident didn’t take place in a public area we cannot provide any further details.’
