BBC News host ’emotional’ as she appears to fight back tears after heartbreaking interview

A BBC presenter almost shed tears as she became “emotional” after a heartwrenching interview. News host Joanna Gosling was speaking to Cynthia Davis and her six-year-old daughter Elsa about the realities of home schooling during the pandemic. The young girl appeared to touch Ms Gosling’s heart when she admitted that she “really missed” her grandparents who have been isolating due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Cynthia, who lives in Buckinghamshire, told the BBC: “We’ve been very lucky in the sense that we’ve got grandparents who are ex-teachers.

“They’ve been also able to chip in and support.

“She does Skype lessons with her grandparents as well which has been phenomenal for us.

“It’s just helped us have some form of a structure.”

Ms Gosling noted they were “lucky” to have grandparents who could contribute in that way.

She also asked Elsa how she felt about going back to school

Elsa said: “When we go back to school, we may have to wear masks. When we get to see our grandparents again we won’t be able to touch them. But we will be able to go to their house.”

Asked if she would be looking forward to that, she said: “Yes, I really miss them.”

The BBC host said: “I really hope you get to see them soon.

“Sorry that’s made me feel a bit emotional.

“I think we are all missing our loved ones, aren’t we?”

Elsa also spoke about how she was finding being at home instead of school.

She said: “It’s been a bit difficult because when we normally go to school, we have our chairs and tables so we work at our tables.

“But from home, it’s been a little different.

“Mum’s been making me do a bit of work. We do English and handwriting.

“We print our work and do it and then we send it to our teacher.”
