Baby Archie christening: Will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reveal names of godparents?
Baby Archie Mountbatten is being christened this weekend on June 6, surrounded by the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to keep to a private ceremony in Windsor. Archie’s christening takes place at St George’s chapel, where his father was christened in 1984 and married last year.
Will Meghan and Harry reveal the name of Archie’s godparents?
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been tight-lipped on the details of Archie’s christening.
They only recently revealed the date after months of speculation, and they are likely to do the same with identifying Archie’s godparents.
There is no word yet on who they could be, but one source close to the Royal Family claims they already know.
The source claimed Archie’s prospective godparents are “private citizens” and Harry and Meghan are keeping the information to themselves.
However, they were critical of the decision, saying Harry is close enough to the throne to warrant the identification of Archie’s godparents.
The source told the Daily Mail: “People are largely sympathetic about their clear desire to bring Archie up out of the public spotlight as much as possible.
“But a christening is something very different.”
“Archie’s great-grandmother is head of the Church of England and he is still very high up in the line of succession.
“You can’t have it both ways. There is a feeling that this doesn’t look very good at all.”
The current favourites to become baby Archie’s godparents are both close friends of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
For godfather, Harry’s childhood friend Charlie Van Straubenzee is favourite at 1/7 odds, while Meghan’s best friend, Jessica Mulroney, is 1/5 favourite to become godmother.
