The Duke and Duchess of Sussex kept their son’s christening on July 6 2019 private. Royals including Prince William, Kate, Prince Charles and Camilla attended, although the Queen and Prince Philip were not able to make the baptism due to a prior engagement.

But new book Royals at War claims the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s absence was a sign of tensions, the Daily Star reported.

Authors Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett wrote: “Pointedly, the Queen and Prince Philip stayed away.

“They had been generous and understanding at their best.

“But they simply now felt publicly embarrassed by Meghan’s controlling behaviour, said a well-placed Palace insider.”

Archie was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the private chapel at Windsor Castle two months after his birth.

To mark the baptism two pictures were released.

One shows the proud parents and their son with Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland and Princess Diana’s sisters Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale.

The second black-and-white image is of Harry and Meghan with little Archie.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said at the time: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to share the happiness of this day, and would like to thank everyone around the world for their ongoing support.

“They feel so fortunate to have enjoyed this special moment with family and Archie’s godparents.”

Meghan and Harry are now living in the US with their one-year-old son after bowing out of the Royal Family.

They officially ended royal duties on March 31 in a move dubbed Megxit.

The Queen’s grandson and the American former actress wanted to step down as senior royals but have a dual role supporting the monarch and earning their own money.

But their plan was unworkable due to fears they would be accused of cashing in on their royal status.

The Queen held a crisis summit with Charles, William and Harry to decide their future roles.

As part of the arrangements they stopped using their HRH titles in favour of personal and financial freedom.

Meghan and Harry, who temporarily moved to Canada, are now based in Los Angeles.

During the lockdown they have been out and about volunteering, as well as taking part in video calls.

They are preparing to launch their new charitable organisation Archewell.

And they have signed with New York-based Harry Walker Agency for speaking engagements as they carve out their new careers.
