Anti-Brexit rally MOCKED after low turnout in Edinburgh – ‘When are the rest arriving?’
The ‘Let Us Be Heard’ demonstration has been ridiculed after images of the event were shared on social media, which showed green fields of empty space behind the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The People’s Vote UK campaign group proceeded to thank Remainers for a “fantastic turnout”, however the bizarre description was challenged by several users. One Facebook user said: “Fantastic..about 25 people all crying together.”
Another stunned user added: “Fantastic turnout? Edinburgh? Get real!!!”
A third commented: “Fantastic turn out??? Who are you kidding??”
A fourth witty observer said: “Well at least you only had to hire one coach.”
Meanwhile a fifth simply said: “When are the rest arriving?”
The event in the Scottish capital was attended by high-profile Remainer’s including Labour MP Jess Phillips, SNP MP Joanna Cherry and former Downing Street Director of Communications Alastair Campbell.
They were also joined by leading comedians including Andrew Maxwell, Grace Campbell and Fred MacAulay.
Ms Phillips took to the stage in Edinburgh and told the People’s Vote rally that if opposing Brexit costs her her seat, she would gladly sacrifice it to protect her constituents’ jobs.
The Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley insisted she is not a “traitor” despite all four wards in her constituency voting for Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.
She said: “It is not treachery to care about those people’s jobs, their homes, their hospitals.
“It is not treachery to care about them having enough to eat, that the medicines they need will be delivered as it always has been.
“I am not a traitor for caring about the people where I live and if it costs me my job because I represent a ‘Leave’ constituency, their jobs matter much more to me than mine.
“Doing the right thing sometimes comes at a cost and Boris Johnson wouldn’t have the first idea about doing the right thing, because the right thing for him is whatever is best for Boris Johnson, not for you or your families.”
The Prime Minister met with French President Emmanuel Macron this afternoon in Paris and stressed he wanted a Brexit that was as “pain-free as possible” whether or not there was a deal.
Mr Johnson said: “A great deal of work has already been done to ensure that the transition on October 31 is as smooth as it possibly can be and so there are already agreements on aviation, on financial services, many other sectors.”
He added in the remaining days before Brexit “we want to make sure we do all the necessary work on both sides of the Channel to make sure that whether we get an agreement or not our exit is as smooth and pain-free as possible for citizens and businesses on both sides”.

Meanwhile Mr Macron told the Prime Minister there could not be a “reshuffling” of the Withdrawal Agreement – but he left open the possibility of making some changes to the deal.
He backed the 30-day timescale suggested by German leader Angela Merkel on Wednesday for the UK to come forward with its proposals but warned the Irish backstop – the major stumbling block – was indispensable.
He added: “We will not find a new Withdrawal Agreement within 30 days that will be very different from the existing one.”
Britain is scheduled to leave the bloc in just 70 days time.
