Sixteen airlines have canceled 547 incoming and outgoing Denver International Airport flights on Monday, a day in which sunny skies and scattered afternoon rain showers are forecast, according to FlightAware and weather forecasters.

DIA spokeswoman Alex Renteria said there is nothing hampering flights. It’s unclear why there have been so many cancellations. One possibility is that airlines are cancelling flights because insufficient seats are being purchased because of COVID-19 concerns, Renteria said.

United Airlines has canceled the most flights with 173 or 41% of its incoming and outgoing flights at DIA, FlightAware announced Monday.

SkyWest Airlines nixed 130 flights or about a third of its total and Southwest Airlines canceled 106 flights or about a fourth of its total on Monday, the online flight status service said.

Another 23 flights have been delayed, FlightAware said.

People should check the status of their flights before heading to DIA Monday.

The high number of cancellations are not because of any problems with DIA operations, according to a recorded DIA media line.

“All airport operations are normal,” the recording said on Monday.

The high temperature Monday is expected to be about 57 degrees at DIA on Monday. Scattered rain showers are possible, mostly after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
