Kevin the Carrot toys are making a comeback tomorrow – but with a big twist

Aldi’s iconic Kevin the Carrot toy is set to make a comeback tomorrow (Thursday 6 December) after selling out in just minutes a fortnight ago.

The cuddly vegetable will go on sale once again in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust – but just 10 will be available from 5pm.

However there will be two big twists as the toys won’t be available to buy in stores. Instead, you’ll have to bid for them on eBay.

The collection will also see the family transformed into limited edition festive outfits, with Kevin in a blue Christmas jumper, Kevin in a Santa outfit, Kevin as a Christmas pudding as well as Katie the Carrot in a red Christmas jumper and as Mrs Claus.

It comes after the toy sparked mayhem in stores when it first launched on ‘Orange Thursday’ with arguments erupting as shoppers fought to get their hands on the soft teddy from Aldi’s famous Christmas advert.

Instead of being available to buy on the website and in stores, it’ll be auctioned off on eBay in a 10-day listing starting at 99p.

"Kevin and his family have built up a pretty big fan base and demand for the toys has grown as a result each year," explained Julie Ashfield at Aldi.

"We are thrilled to partner with eBay on this initiative and are rooting for Kevin fans across the nation to help us raise money for this fantastic cause. This will help take us one step closer to reaching our £5million fundraising target for Teenage Cancer Trust , to help ensure that no young person faces cancer alone."

Kevin the Carrot toys first went on sale last month as part of Aldi’s limited-edition special buys – however sold out in just minutes, at a rate of one toy every 1.5 seconds.

And just days later on Sunday 25 November, ‘Kevin the Carrot’ became the second most searched term on eBay.

Rob Hattrell, at eBay UK said: "Partnering with Aldi to sell official Kevin the Carrot limited edition toys is a fantastic way to raise even more for this vital cause, and I’d urge as many Kevin fans as possible to take part in Thursday’s auction."

Made famous by Aldi’s Christmas advert, the Kevin the Carrot collection includes Kevin and Katie, their offspring Jasper, Chantenay and a baby.

The most prized toy – a one-metre tall cuddly Kevin – costs £19.99 in store and is sold alongside small £3.99 versions of Kevin and Katie.

Kevin’s and Katie’s offspring can also be bought in a set for £3.99, along with a small Pascal the Parsnip, which also retails at £3.99.

One Kevin the Carrot plush toy recently sold for £1,100 in a single bid online showing just how far shoppers will go to get their hands on one. Its typical retail price is £19.99.
