To the Editor:
Re “Farmers Stung by Trade Strife Get $16 Billion” (front page, May 24):
President Trump exclaims that “we’re winning it big” when it comes to his trade war with China. So why does he need to use taxpayer money to bail out Americans who are being hurt by his actions?
As has happened other times, Mr. Trump creates problems with his policies, or in some cases his lack of policy. Then he wants credit for trying to clean up the resulting mess. The affected “farmers and ranchers in cowboy hats” are providing cover for the president when they should be outraged by his incompetence.
