Thomas Markle says Meghan will next see him ‘when he’s lowered into ground’

Meghan Markle’s estranged father has said the next time she will see him is when he is “being lowered into the ground.”

Speaking to Channel 5, Thomas Markle Snr said he appeared on their documentary purely so he could talk directly to his daughter after being snubbed for the past two years.

The 75-year-old retired Hollywood lighting director is filmed discussing the Sussexes' and what led to their bitter estrangement in the run-up to her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

Fearing he will never get to see Meghan, 38, again or meet his grandson, Archie and his son-in-law, the pensioner says: "The last time they might see me is being lowered into the ground.

"I don't think at this point they are thrilled to see me or want to talk to me.”

The 90-minute documentary, Thomas Markle: My Story, explores the background to what it calls his “complicated” relationship with Meghan.

  • Thomas Markle accuses Prince Harry of being 'way too sensitive' and says royal family owe him

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'still being guarded by British police in Canada'

When asked why he decided to make the Documentary Mr Markle said: "Because I want everyone to know that I'm not all the trashy things that are being said about me. I want Harry and Meghan to see this video and know that this is not fair."

During the show, Mr Markle speaks directly to his daughter over her wedding he missed due to heart complications.

He said: "I apologise to you. I want to apologise to the queen and to the royal family. I want to do that, and I was told by them, 'don't'.

“And I was scheduled to go to the airport and go fly to England because they still wanted me to come to the wedding and be at the wedding. And at that time I got a massive heart attack and was then taken to the Sharp hospital, across the border.”

Mr Markle suffered pains after he was found to have staged pictures with the paparazzi against Harry and Meghan’s advice.

Speaking about their decision to step back from their royal duties and move to Canada with Archie, he added: "With Meghan and Harry separating from the royals, it's disappointing because she actually got every girl's dream.

Every young girl wanted to become a princess, and she got that, and now she's tossing that away, for it looks like she's tossing it away for money.

"Apparently $3million and a 26-bedroom home isn't enough for them.

"When they got married, they took on an obligation, and the obligation is to be part of the Royals and to represent the Royals, and it would be foolish for them not to.

"This is one of the greatest long-living institutions ever, and they're destroying it. They're cheapening it and making it shabby.

"It's kind of embarrassing to me."
