Man with Down’s syndrome baked to death in 50C car as carer got high on drugs

A man with Down's syndrome "baked" to death in the back of a car while his carer smoked drugs, it has been alleged.

John LaPointe, who could not talk or take care of himself, was unable to wake up Joshua Russell while he slept in the driver's seat of a car for almost three hours.

The 35-year-old, who had the cognitive ability of a one-year-old, died due to the heat.

According to the New York Post Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said: "Let’s just call it what it is — this poor guy baked in that car.

"It had to be absolutely horrific in that car for that man.

"He was sitting in there and the van got extremely hot, there was nothing he could do. He couldn't do anything to help himself."
