Family Day in Barrie: What’s on for families this holiday weekend

With Family Day fast approaching, many residents will be looking for fun activities to do with their families to celebrate.

Global News has rounded up a list of family-friendly events happening in the Barrie area this weekend:

Family Day Winter Adventure

On Monday, Feb. 18, the City of Barrie will be hosting its fifth annual Family Day Winter Adventure at the Barrie Community Sports Complex.

This year’s activities include a skating rink, broomball pad, horse and sleigh rides, challenge course elements, fat bike demonstrations, trail walking and a roaring bonfire.

“It’s a perfect opportunity for families and residents of all ages to be active together in the great outdoors!” the release reads.

The event will take place at the Barrie Community Sport Complex, located at 2100 Nursery Road in Midhurst, from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m.

Family Day at Drysdale’s Tree Farm

On Monday, Feb. 18, families can join Drysdale’s Tree farm for their inaugural Family Fun Day.

Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., families can enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, scavenger hunts, facepainting and more.

Admission is $10 per person. Children three years of age and under, however, enter for free.

The farm is located at 6635 Simcoe County Road 56 in Egbert.

Family Day Weekend at the Scenic Caves Nordic Centre

On Family Day weekend, from Saturday, Feb. 16 to Monday, Feb. 18, the Scenic Caves Nordic Centre in The Blue Mountains will be hosting outdoor family fun for all ages.

Beginners, intermediate or expert skiers can explore cross-country ski trails or snowshoe trails.

There will also be a guided night snowshoe hike on Saturday and Sunday for visitors 10 years of age or older.

Families can enjoy a scavenger hunt, wooden sculptures, a children’s adventure playground and a fire pit.

Visitors looking to warm up can do so at the relaxing Warm-up Café and the main cabin.

Family Day at the Simcoe County Museum

On Monday, Feb. 18, families can head to the Simcoe County Museum for their annual Family Day Extravaganza.

Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., visitors can enjoy skating, snowshoeing, sledding and more.

Families can also glide through the grounds on the museum’s skating trail.

If it gets too chilly, visitors can warm up inside and explore the museum’s indoor galleries.

Families are asked to bring their own skates, helmets and toboggans.

Snowshoe rentals will be available free of charge.

The cost to enter is $8 for adults, $6 for youth and seniors and $5 for children.

Museum members and preschoolers enter for free.

The museum is located at 1151 Highway 26 in Minesing.

Family Day weekend at Friday Harbour

This Family Day weekend, families can head to Friday Harbour for a number of exciting activities.

Families can enjoy magicians, horse-drawn wagons, crafts, scavenger hunts and all sorts of outdoor fun including skating, snowshoe tours and snow baseball.

Snowshoes, cross-country skis and fat bikes will be available to rent.

There will also be ice sculptors and wood carvers who will put on live demonstrations around the campfire as hot drinks and chili are served at the Beach Club Window.

On Saturday night, families can enjoy a fireworks display.

Family Day Crafternoon in Orillia

On Monday, Feb. 18, families can head to the Orillia Waterfront Centre for an afternoon full of free arts, crafts and hot chocolate.

The event will run from 1 p.m., to 3 p.m., at the Boater’s Lounge at the Orillia Waterfront Centre located at 50 Centennial Drive in Orillia.
