Alex Jones spoke to January 6 committee and pled the Fifth 'almost 100 times'

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones said on his show Tuesday that he was deposed by the House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection, and that he exercised his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination ‘almost 100 times.’

The right-wing host of the commentary website InfoWars described his testimony, given remotely on Monday, as ‘extremely interesting, to say the least.’

‘I just had a very intense experience being interrogated by the January 6 committee,’ he said during his latest podcast episode. ‘They were polite, but they were dogged.’

By his lawyers count, Jones pleaded the Fifth Amendment, his right not to answer questions in court, ‘almost 100 times,’ which he said he was told to do ‘on advice of counsel.’

Jones goes on to say that he wanted to answer the questions, but was afraid the committee would twist his words, and didn’t want to risk perjuring himself.

‘The questions were pretty reasonable,’ Jones said.

‘And I wanted to answer the questions, but at the same time, it’s a good thing I didn’t because I’m the type that tries to answer things correctly even though I don’t know all the answers, and they can kind of claim that that’s perjury because about half the questions I didn’t know the answer to.’

In a letter to Jones last month, the committee’s chair, Representative Bennie Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi, said they had evidence that Jones was involved in planning and funding the rally that took place immediately before the deadly January 6 riot. Their evidence also showed that Jones was supposed to lead rallygoers to the Capitol that day.

Jones was first subpoenaed by the panel in November.
