Togo public workers join strike as protests mount

Five months of protests are putting pressure on President Faure Gnassingbe to step down, but he has thus far shown no interest in vacating his position.

    Healthcare workers, teachers and students have added their voices to anti-government protests in Togo – staging a nationwide strike.

    Theirs is the latest demonstration calling for an overhaul of Togo’s political system and the resignation of President Faure Gnassingbe, an end for the ruling family’s 50-year grip on power.
