Gold settles higher, extends gains in electronic trade after Fed minutes

Ten-Year Note Auction Attracts Slightly Above Average Demand

The Treasury Department announced the results of this month’s auction of $24 billion worth of ten-year notes on Wednesday, revealing the auction attracted slightly above average demand.

The ten-year note auction drew a high yield of 1.590 percent and a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.43.

Last month, the Treasury also sold $24 billion worth of ten-year notes, drawing a high yield of 1.739 percent and a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.46.

The bid-to-cover ratio is a measure of demand that indicates the amount of bids for each dollar worth of securities being sold.

The ten previous ten-year note auctions had an average bid-to-cover ratio of 2.41.

Looking ahead, the Treasury is due to announce the results of its auction of $16 billion worth of thirty-year bonds on Thursday.

Minutes from the Sept. 17-18 Federal Open Market Committee meeting published Wednesday revealed a sharp division among policymakers over the decision to cut the benchmark federal funds — the second time the U.S. central bank did so this year.

Last month, the Fed lowered rates by a modest 25 basis points to a range between 1.75 percent and 2 percent. Currently, traders are pricing in an 80 percent chance of a third rate cut at the upcoming meeting at the end of October.

Saudi Arabia condemns the Turkish offensive in northeast Syria: State TV

CAIRO (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia condemned on Wednesday the Turkish offensive in northeast Syria, state TV cited an official source in the Saudi foreign ministry as saying.

The source expressed the kingdom’s concern over the incursion and described it as a threat to regional security and peace.

The source also stressed the need to ensure the safety of the Syrian people, and Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Largest Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton found in Canada

The world’s largest Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton nicknamed Scotty, was found in Canada.

Police officers carrying out a routine vehicle check were stunned when they opened the back of a lorry – and found a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Road cops from Thames Valley [U.K] Police were stunned when they discovered the giant dinosaur model in the back of the box van. The scary model looked ready to pounce as its oversized head poked outwards with its orange eyes and jagged teeth.

After recovering from the shock encounter, the officer posted a picture of their discovery on social media on Friday.

PC Pilling wrote: “Now I wasn't expecting that.”

It sparked a flurry of whimsical reactions on Twitter.

Sarah Williams said: “I can imagine needing a clean pair of undies opening the back up on that lorry."

Another local added: "Bet you got the fright of your life.”

The officer in question did not explain what the lorry driver was doing with the giant model.

Thames Valley Police Roads Policing have been contacted for comment.

SNAPCHAT has gone down for users across the Northern Hemisphere.

Technical issues are blamed for the outage since 5.25pm UK time,  according to Downdectector, a site that monitors online outages.

What happened to Snapchat?

The social media app is down for those in the UK, users in Northern Europe and the East Coast of the US.

The Snapchat Twitter account was quick to respond and said a fix was on the way.

It tweeted: "We're aware some Snapchatters are having trouble using the app. Hang tight – we are looking into it."

 

What should you do if your Snapchat goes down?

The Snapchat Support Twitter suggests going to the website.

Users should then go to the section labelled "My Snapchats have disappeared".

By pressing "yes"next to "still need help" you can fill out a form with more assistance.

Gold settles higher, extends gains in electronic trade after Fed minutes

Gold prices climbed on Wednesday to snap a three-session streak of declines, as traders eyed developments ahead of U.S.-China trade talks. Prices then extended those gains in electronic trading after minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee’s September meeting showed that Fed officials had grown more worried about the economy. In electronic trading, gold for December delivery GCZ19, +0.53% was at $1,513 an ounce shortly after the meeting minutes. The contract had climbed by $8.90, or 0.6%, to settle at $1,512.80 an ounce on Comex, ahead of the news.
