Terrifying moment a bus driver is RUN OVER by a jeep after he sat on the wheel to stop motorist from leaving after a traffic accident in Colombia

• Isaías Vargas was run over by José Mauricio Gil Velásquez on Tuesday in Bogotá  
• Vargas, a bus driver for the Colombian capital’s public transportation system, was attempting to stop Gil Velásquez from fleeing the accident site
• A motorist near the scene recorded Gil Velásquez slowly accelerating over Vargas, who stood in front of jeep waiting for authorities to arrive
• A judge released Gil Velásquez from detention Thursday because he was illegally detained
• The judged said no original video was collected through the chain of custody by the bus supervisor

Cellphone video has captured the terrifying moment a man driving a jeep ran over a bus driver following a traffic accident in Colombia.

Isaías Vargas, an employee with the Integrated Public Transportation System [SITP] in Bogotá, was leaning against the front left wheel of the jeep while waiting for authorities to arrive moments after reporting a road traffic accident incident Tuesday.

Fellow motorists driving by the scene recorded the sickening moment José Mauricio Gil Velásquez slowly accelerated and drove over Vargas’ body following an argument between the men.

Witnesses shouted at the Gil Velásquez to reverse in order to free the bus driver who was pinned under the wheel.

However, on Thursday a judge ordered released of the SUV driver, according to a statement issued on Twitter by the office of Colombia’s Attorney General.

‘The judge in control declared the illegal capture of the indicted [José Mauricio Gil Velásquez] for the crime of tempted homicide. The main argument was that[the evidence] mismatched the timeline of events. In addition, no original video was collected through the chain of custody by the SITP supervisor.’

Local media outlet Alerta Bogotá said the the Prosecutor’s Office will request a new arrest warrant for the capture of Gil Velásquez.

Vargas was treated by paramedics on site and taken to a local hospital. He didn’t suffer any fractures although he was diagnosed with bruising to his legs.

‘His [Gil Velásquez] first reaction is to reverse the car and take off but since there was a traffic jam he managed to advance just a few meters,’ Vargas said.

‘I stood in front of the car to prevent him from leaving while calling my immediate bosses to inform them what had happened.’
