'Boy' claiming to be missing child Timmothy Pitzen is 24 year-old faker

The FBI say a ‘teenager’ claiming to be missing child Timmothy Pitzen is actually a 24 year-old conman called Brian Michael Rini.

The FBI confirmed Thursday afternoon that the boy was not Pitzen, and have charged Rini with falsification. Officials shared the results of a DNA test conducted a day after Rini approached a woman while wandering the streets of Newport, Kentucky, and told onlookers that he was Timmothy.

The negative DNA result will prove a blow for Timmothy’s grandmother Alana Anderson, who said she was ‘cautiously hopeful’, that the individual was Timmothy, and that she was looking forward to welcoming him home if so.

She left a note to say that Timmothy was being cared for by someone who loved him, and adding ‘You’ll never find him.’

Prior to the DNA testing results being revealed, Timmothy’s grandmother Alana Anderson told WISN that she was ‘cautiously hopeful’ that the youngster could turn out to be Timmothy.

Anderson explained: ‘We just know a 14-year-old boy was found and went to the police.

‘We don’t want to get our hopes up and our family’s hopes up until we know something. We just don’t want to get our hopes up.

‘We’ve had false reports and false hopes before.’

Anderson added: ‘If it turns out to be him, we will be thrilled.

‘We never stopped looking for him, thinking about him and we’ll do everything we can to get him back to a good life.’
