BREAKING: MPs reject May’s Brexit deal AGAIN as PM warns of ‘GRAVE consequences’

The House of Commons rejected it with a majority of 58, by 344 votes to 286.

The Prime Minister said the consequences would be “grave”, adding: “I fear we are reaching the limits of the process in this House.”

She said: “The legal default now is that the United Kingdom is due to leave the European Union on 12 April – in just 14 days’ time.

“This is not enough time to agree, legislate for and ratify a deal, and yet the House has been clear it will not permit leaving without a deal.

“And so we will have to agree an alternative way forward.”

MPs were only voting on one part of the PM’s deal – the withdrawal agreement – in what should prove the easiest part of the exit process.

European Council President Donald Tusk announced European leaders will meet on April 10 after the shambolic defeat.

Two days ago, May confirmed she will stand down after the Brexit deal has been delivered.

The embattled Tory leader said she “will not stand in the way” of the party having new leadership for the second phase of Brexit negotiations.
