What a start to 2019! UK ticket wins £114.9m EuroMillions jackpot

In a sensational start to 2019, the lucky Briton has become the fourth-largest lottery winner in the country.

A further 10 UK players won £1m in a special draw held on Tuesday night.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at The National Lottery, has urged players to check their tickets “to see if they are a big winner and can turn 2019 into one long celebration”.

The numbers from the EuroMillions draw were 01, 08, 11, 25 and 28, while the Lucky Stars were 04 and 06.

A couple of weeks ago, a British man won a £76m EuroMillions jackpot after sitting on a winning ticket for six weeks.

Andrew Clark, a 51-year-old from Lincolnshire, had a pile of unchecked tickets in his van – and the builder’s family had urged him to check them after hearing about the unclaimed prize on the news.

Recalling the evening he found the ticket, Mr Clark said: “I finally gave in, got the bundle out of the van and started to work my way through them, methodically from the oldest to the most recent, starting with Lotto, before moving onto my EuroMillions tickets.

“You might say I was slightly winding up Louise but I certainly didn’t expect the wind up to end with me saying ‘I’ve done it, I’ve won £76m’ – I won’t say what she said in response!”

In July 2011, Colin and Chris Weir became the biggest lottery winners in the UK – and across Europe – when they scooped more than £161m.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford, from Suffolk, took home more than £148m in August 2012, while the biggest prize awarded in the country in 2018 was £121m, handed to an anonymous winner in April.
