Royal shock: How Prince William was branded a ‘ladies man’

Prince William and Kate Middleton are now the proud parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge began their romance in 2001, when they were both students at the University of St Andrews. However, in the student halls were they both lived, the prince had a reputation as a “ladies man”, according to a royal author.

Biographer Andrew Morton, in his 2011 book “William and Catherine”, takes a look at the early days of their royal romance.

Mr Morton writes: “William was known for his roving eye, which would cast around a room checking out the female talent, while he appeared to be absorbed in his companion’s conversation.

A member of the prince’s circle told the author: “Everyone thinks Harry is the naughty one. Not true.”

“William is a ladies’ man.”

Meanwhile, Mr Morton writes, Kate Middleton was known as “Beautiful Kate” in the student halls.

University friend of their Michael Choong said: “Guys would go to the canteen for breakfast and they would eye up Kate.

“They’d be joking, ‘Who’s going to date Kate?’

“Then someone would turn to Will and remark, ‘Obviously, you’ve got the best chance’.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would go on to tie the knot ten years after their first meeting, in their 2011 royal wedding.

However, their path to wedded bliss had some hiccups along the way.

Their first blip came in 2004 when the pair had a “trial separation” after finishing university.

Then, in 2007, a brief break-up came about after William reportedly “thought he could do better”.

However, the prince soon saw the error of his ways and whisked Kate off on a romantic getaway to the Seychelles, where the couple made a secret “pact of commitment” to each other.

Their engagament annoucement followed in November 2010, after they secretly became engaged on a trip to Kenya that October.
