Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just welcomed their new bundle of joy Archie Harrison  into the world. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to a happy family life together in their new home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. However, Prince Harry’s parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana were sadly increasingly unhappy together by the time of Harry’s birth and would go on to have heated arguments around the young prince. 

Andrew Morton, in his 2011 book “William and Catherine: Their Lives, Their Wedding”, reveals how the young Harry was affected by his parents’ unhappiness, and even told Prince Charles, “I hate you”.

Mr Morton writes: “[Charles and Diana’s] parental rivalry continued behind the closed doors of Kensington Palace.”

He writes that on one occasion, “young Harry launched an attack on his father, ineffectually beating him on the legs with his fists”.

According to Mr Morton, Harry shouted: “I hate you, I hate you, you make Mummy cry.”

He continues: “William, sensitive and a little shy, was old enough to absorb the confusing emotional meaning behind the stony silences and harsh words when his parents were together.

“On at least one occasion he pushed tissues under the door to his mother’s bathroom, where Diana had closeted herself so that the staff – and her children – would not see her crying.”

Royal author Katie Nicholl also claims that Prince William had another similar outburst towards his father during this difficult period.

In her 2010 book “William and Harry”, Ms Nicholl writes: “He could not bear to hear his parents bicker any longer.”

She reports how the young prince shouted angrily: “I hate you, Papa. I hate you so much. Why do you make Mummy cry all the time?”

Ms Nicholl also describes how William “slammed the door” in a rage while shouting at his father.  

Prince William was born in 1982, the year after his parent’s spectacular 1981 royal wedding.

Diana and Charles would go on to separate in 1992, before their eventual 1996 divorce.
