Meghan Markle in labour: How will we know when Meghan Markle is giving birth?

For Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, the start of labour is announced to the world with a tweet from Kensington Palace. She heads into the Lindo Wing in London, delivers, and emerges hours later looking freshly made up, blowdried and immaculately dressed, newborn in the crook of her arm. But Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has a bit more freedom, simply because she isn’t married to the future King of England.

So how will we know when she goes into labour?

The truth is, we might not find out when Meghan begins labour.

In fact, there’s a chance we won’t know until some time after the baby is born.

A statement released via Buckingham Palace on behalf of the Duke and Duchess said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

It would take some feat, but it might be possible to keep the arrival of the Royal baby under wraps for a few weeks meaning it might already have been born now.

The odds of privacy increase if rumours of Meghan’s decision to have a home birth are to be believed.

If instead she chooses to deliver at Frimley Park Hospital, close to her and Prince Harry’s home in Windsor, we might get the news a little sooner.

Until then, there’s little we can do but wait and speculate.

Bookies are in overdrive dealing with all the best coming in for everything from gender to name.

According to Coral bookmakers, the baby will arrive this weekend, making it 4/5 odds on Sunday or before.

As for the name, Grace is leading the girls with 5/1, and Arthur is top of the boys with 8/1.

For the gender, it’s 1/2 for a girl and 6/4 for a boy.

And for double trouble, Coral makes it 4/1 for twins!
