Meghan and Harry’s Frogmore affair – how Windsor estate went from marital bliss to home

The Sussexes are celebrating their first wedding anniversary at their Frogmore Cottage, a ten bedroom house on the Windsor Estate, with their newborn son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The surroundings are certainly dear to Harry and Meghan Markle’s hearts – their engagement photos were taken in the grounds of Frogmore House – the larger house on the estate where their wedding reception was also held. The home is also just moments away from Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel where Meghan and Harry tied the knot last spring.

Frogmore Cottage was gifted to Meghan and Prince Harry by the Queen and underwent a £3million renovation before they moved in April.

But their move last year sparked speculation of a fall out with the Cambridges when they revealed plans to move away from Kensington Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had lived in their cosy Nottingham Cottage next door to Prince William since they announced their engagement in November 2017.

But they decided to move out of London to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor ahead of the birth of their first child.

The move meant they are now 20 miles away from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, and their three children: George, Charlotte and Louis.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wish to raise their son away from the royal spotlight and their home is a world apart from the Kensington bubble.

The couple first got to know each other over a bottle of rose at Soho House in London’s Dean Street after being set up by mutual friends.

And after several dates, Harry invited the American actress to join him on holiday in Botswana, where their romance blossomed.

In barely two years of meeting, the pair were engaged and are now happily married and parents to their firstborn son, Archie.

Harry and Meghan’s whirlwind romance has gone on to break all odds, exceptions and stereotypes of the Royal Family.

The pair met in July 2016 and announced their engagement in in November 2017, barely two years after meeting for the very first time.

Just five months later the couple were married in a spectacular Royal Wedding in Windsor, which captured the attention of millions, not just in the UK, but also across the pond in the US, and the world.

Meghan and Harry were officially named the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the nuptials marked the start of Meghan’s journey into becoming a royal.

But eyebrows were certainly raised at Harry’s choice – an American actress divorcee.

However Harry insists the “stars war aligned” when he met Meghan and their relationship has gone on to capture the attention of millions, not just in the UK, but also across the pond in the US, and the world.

But it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the American royal, who has been forced to endure the very public breakdown of her relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, and rumours of a rift with her sister-in-law, Kate.
