Opinion | Vote for Trump Again, or Switch?

To the Editor:

I voted for Donald Trump in 2016 because I felt that I couldn’t trust Hillary Clinton. Mr. Trump was preaching as if he supported populism and “draining the swamp.” He failed to live up to both, miserably.

The two Democratic candidates I am supporting are Bernie Sanders and Andrew Yang. (I would also be happy with Elizabeth Warren or Tulsi Gabbard.) I feel that Bernie and Andrew genuinely want to help the average person and have the ideas and willpower to get things done. Mr. Trump has turned his back on me, my family and the entire Rust Belt. He’s helped to divide this country to where it almost feels beyond repair. I feel genuine guilt for throwing my vote in his direction last time around, and I certainly won’t make that mistake again.

To the Editor:

Yes! I’ll be voting for Donald Trump again and proudly so. Why? He is the classic American underdog story. He not only has to combat the raging left, with its “give away the store” mentality, but also 95 percent of the media, which is hellbent on reporting something ominous in his every twitch and sneeze and tweet.

Get over yourselves, guys! He might not fit your preconceived ideals of presidential, but that’s just fine with me. The ball is moving forward, and that’s what’s important.

To the Editor:

I might consider Joe Biden based on his experience and temperament. Tulsi Gabbard impresses me for her thoughtful approach to a given subject and the fact that she has actually served our country in the armed forces. The rest of the bunch are shills with little or no common sense or regard for taxpaying, hardworking citizens! They cater to activist tribes and have no intention of bringing our country together. They promise everything for free, and fools will believe them. The middle class will pay — or what’s left of it!

To the Editor:

As an independent, I represent the voters who decide whether the person who lives in the White House is a Democrat or a Republican. Over the last 50 years I’ve voted for candidates of both parties. My vote is based only on which of the two candidates I believe has more “common sense” on the issues confronting the country rather than political ideology.

My vote in 2016 went to Donald Trump because his logic made more sense to me than that of his Democratic opponent. America’s relations with both our friends and adversaries needed an “update,” and it is happening! Domestically, the country’s programs — including health care, education, entitlements, immigration, and competition and tax policy — are working only for the “special interests,” but not for the population at large.

I will vote for President Trump again only if he acknowledges the above failures and promises common sense and financially feasible solutions. Otherwise, I’m inclined to vote for Senator Elizabeth Warren at this time.

To the Editor:

I did not vote for Donald Trump in 2016 and will certainly not vote for him in 2020, but I’d like to point out that this survey is a very flawed exercise from the outset. By virtue of the fact that only people who read The Times will be responding, and given Mr. Trump’s characterization of The Times as fake news and not worth reading, the survey pool will be skewed toward the more susceptible “fence straddlers” in the voting population.

So, while their reasons for switching may be informative, they do not reflect the mainstream Trump supporter.

To the Editor:

I voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and will do so again. Based on the debates, Democrats have learned nothing in the last two years. Stopping the invasion at the southern border is a priority. Open borders. Wrong. Free health care for illegals. Wrong. How do Democrats explain this border crisis to legal immigrants waiting in line?

Democrats believe that identity politics is a winner. Wrong. It is half of their story line.

To the Editor:

I absolutely will not vote for Donald Trump again. I regretted it as soon as he started up with the inauguration nonsense. If his mouth is open, he’s telling lies. He makes me sick, ashamed. Everything about him makes my skin crawl. I will vote for whoever wins the Democratic nomination without flinching. Our institutions and democracy are at stake, and four more years of Mr. Trump will be disastrous and ruinous. Mr. Trump has to go.

To the Editor:

Tulsi Gabbard, in a heartbeat. She is all about service to her country, from her wartime experience in Iraq to her service in the Hawaii House of Representatives and Congress. Unlike her fellow Democratic primary hopefuls, Ms. Gabbard is a moderate on some key issues. She would make a wonderful president.

To the Editor:

I voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and am proud to say that I intend to vote for him in 2020. I watched the two Democratic debates. I listened in vain for one word, from any candidate, about our $22 trillion federal debt, much less the projected $1 trillion deficit. I did hear about decriminalizing lawlessness (immigration), a healthy dollop of identity politics, and Medicare for All, or Some, or Medicare for All Not Quite Yet, any of which would bankrupt our already fragile economy.

I have problems with Donald Trump (who doesn’t?), and I was against his tax cut. But a vote for any Democrat on that stage means unrealistic “green” fantasies, open borders and a drift left to poorly defined politics and policies. Donald Trump has taken bold, unprecedented steps on foreign policy and trade, and I am willing to put my faith in him for another four years.

To the Editor:

I agree with recent articles about the tilt of the Democratic Party to the left, but there is no way I will vote for The Donald again! I had hoped he would become more reasonable once in office, but the opposite is true. Climate change is my greatest concern.

To the Editor:

In 2016, I voted for Donald Trump, the first time I voted for a Republican since 1991, when I became a naturalized citizen. I voted for him mainly because of what I consider a huge problem — ever increasing mass illegal immigration, overwhelmingly from Latin America. I believe that this significantly curtails the chances for legal immigration from all other parts of the world and will eventually endanger the glorious diverse nature of our country.

I was almost determined to vote for Mr. Trump again. The second-night debate, however, changed my mind: I will vote for Kamala Harris because she has all the desired qualities for a 21st-century American president. Plus, I am certain she will beat Donald Trump.

To the Editor:

As a former Trump voter, I’m rooting for Andrew Yang to win the Democratic nomination so that I can vote for him in 2020. The Freedom Dividend (Universal Basic Income) and Value Added Tax that Mr. Yang is proposing is what the nation needs moving into this next industrial revolution of automation and artificial intelligence. Mr. Yang brings fresh, logical solutions to the problems that got Mr. Trump elected. Mr. Yang is the one to bring this nation together and Make America Think Harder.

To the Editor:

I voted for Donald Trump and will vote for him again. America’s first. The Democrats want to give illegals just about anything they want. What part of illegal do they not understand? If I, or any other taxpaying American, should do something illegal, we go to jail. Why does an illegal have more rights then we do?

California and many states have a huge homeless problem. Why aren’t we taking care of them? Free medical care for immigrants? And driver’s licenses? It is sad that Democrats have to buy votes that way, and taxpaying Americans go without.

Free college for everyone? Who is going to pay for it? We paid to put our son and daughter through college; let others do the same. Will I get a refund?

The Democrats didn’t care what was going on at the border, and now that an election is near they pretend they care. Mr. Trump has wanted to take care of immigration since he was elected. Close the border. The economy is doing great. Why trust it to a Democrat?

So many reasons not to vote for a Democrat.
