A driver has miraculously survived after he drove into the back of a truck and his car was impaled by logs.

Photos from the scene of the accident in Georgia, US, show the logs had smashed through the SUV’s windscreen and reached its back window.

Some have described the incident as like a scene from film franchise Final Destination.

Whitfield County Fire Chief Edward O’Brien told CNN the driver was leaning down to pick up something he dropped.

He managed to survive because he was not sat upright in his seat, meaning his head was in a gap underneath the logs.

“It was as if it was almost created just for his head,” Mr O’Brien said.

In a post on its Facebook page, Whitfield County Fire department said the man had escaped with “minor” injuries.

However several commenters claimed the man had suffered more serious injuries.

Dawn Fernandez, who said she had driven past the accident shortly after it happened, wrote on Facebook that the scene “haunted” her.

“I came upon this after it happened,” she wrote. “Emergency vehicles were not On the scene yet. It shook me to my core.

“I had to pull over just a little bit passed the accident to cry and pray for the occupants of the vehicle (sic).

“In my earthly mind I knew there were no survivors. It haunted me all day today. I am just seeing this and seeing that the person in the vehicle survived.”

Firefighters had to use chainsaws to cut through 30 to 40 logs so they could reach the man.

It then took them 10 to 15 minutes to get him out of the car.
